Verified Healthy Building for Indoor Air

Verification Method

The UL Verified Healthy Building Mark demonstrates that indoor spaces provide healthy indoor environmental quality (IEQ). It shows a commitment by building owners and managers to create and maintain indoor environments that support tenant health, well-being and comfort, backed by UL Solutions’ globally recognized expertise in IEQ and building health. These buildings meet rigorous performance criteria and have policies and plans in place for continual advancement of IEQ. To achieve the UL Verified Healthy Building Mark, spaces underwent a desktop audit and on-site visits that include visual inspections and performance testing to evaluate a range of building conditions. The program includes an annual comprehensive assessment coupled with surveillance at the mid-year point. The testing requirements verify that the building air meets rigorous standards. These standards are aligned with industry-recognized, third-party organizations such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), among others. When necessary, all laboratory testing and analysis methodologies are informed by the EPA Compendium of Methods, ASTM D5197 and TO-17 for air sampling, and EPA methods.

About the Company

2000 Pennsylvania Avenue is an iconic mixed-use property in the heart of Foggy Bottom in Washington, DC. Adjacent to George Washington University and the White House, 2000 Penn sits at one of the premier addresses in the city. Rowhouses line the facade of the 11-floor office building, rooting the glass-lined office with traditional DC architecture. MRP repositioned the building in 2020 with transformative improvements to the lobby, 10th-floor amenities & terrace, and fitness center renovations. Western Market anchors the project with a 12,300 SF food court, rebuilt from its origins in 1802 when it served as a vibrant marketplace and one of the 3 major original markets in Architect Pierre L’Enfant’s blueprint for Washington, DC. Tenants were chosen to represent a global theme and include Duke’s Grocery, Mason’s Lobster Rolls, Captain Cookie & the Milkman, Bandoola Bowl, Roaming Rooster, Nim Ali, and Tigerella by the award-winning restaurant team behind Mount Pleasant’s Ellē.
